About the service

Ante and Post Natal Counselling

Having a baby evokes very powerful feelings in us all. These feelings affect the practical decisions that we make about how to parent. It can be important to understand our reactions and why we feel the way we do, to enable us to respond thoughtfully and creatively about our own needs and those of our children.

Ante and post natal counselling provides a safe and confidential space to help you make sense of feelings that can be evoked by pregnancy, birth and parenthood.

It is a process of exploration undertaken by the counsellor and client together.

Who Can Benefit?

Counselling can help anyone who needs some emotional support and who is interested in learning more about themselves and their feelings.

Ante and post natal counselling can be helpful for:

  • Anxiety and postnatal depression
  • Fear about the birth
  • A previously difficult or traumatic birth
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Feelings evoked by motherhood
  • Negative feelings towards your baby (or child)
  • Difficulties with specific parenting issues

Ante and post natal counselling does not provide expert advice about how to take care of your baby. Our counsellors will support you to explore your thoughts and feelings and to understand where they come from. This may help you to understand what your baby or child is trying to communicate and the responses and feelings evoked in you by what they are communicating.

Your relationship with your baby, as with any other relationship, is unique. The aim of counselling is to empower you to respond in ways that are right for you and your baby.

What happens when I contact the service?

You will be offered an initial session with one of our counsellors. This will be an opportunity to talk about what you’re finding difficult and to decide with your counsellor if counselling could be helpful to you. It is also a chance for your counsellor to learn something about you.

This session lasts 75 minutes and costs £65.00

If you wish to continue you can arrange further sessions. These are usually weekly and at the same time, that becomes your personal time for counselling.

On-going sessions last 50 minutes and cost £45.00

It is possible to negotiate a reduced rate if you are on a lower income.

Consulting Rooms:

Our consulting rooms are located in Central Kingston and Earls Court, with close and accessible parking.

We are aware of the difficulty of finding childcare for a small baby and so you are welcome to bring your baby with you to sessions.
